The plan on a whiteboard
The design
- Credit debt. Each card is a Credit Card account, which gives it a payment category automatically. One Debt Paydown group holds a carried-balance category per card with a payoff target. Debt only grows when you spend unfunded, so the rule is simple: never spend from an unfunded category.
- Tax reserve. One group with federal plus self-employment, state, and prior-year true-up. Every business deposit moves 30 percent into the group the day it lands. The reserve balance is the visible tax debt.
- Monitoring. Three new checks: reserve balance against 30 percent of month-to-date income, each card's payment coverage, and paydown progress against targets. A setup nag until the groups exist.
What I expect to learn
Whether a flat percentage survives contact with a real quarterly true-up, and how many months of data the paydown check needs before its trend is trustworthy.
